On 2nd January 2024, Archbishop George Desmond Tambala appointed Fr Martin Mulholland as parish priest of St Kizito Chigoneka Parish. Fr Martin previously worked in priestly formation in Zambia and South Africa. He was officially welcomed to St Kizito in February.
In March, the parish hosted the Auxiliary Bishop of Lilongwe, His Lordship Vincent Frederick Mwakhwawa for St Patrick’s Day celebrations. Alongside Monsignor Patrick Thawale, missionary priests from Daniel Comboni Missionaries and Palottines also attended the celebration.
In June, during St Kizito Day celebrations, Archbishop of Lilongwe George Desmond Tambala confirmed 65 youths.
In August, members of the Catholic Men Association from St Kizito Chigoneka Parish visited their counterparts at St Anne’s Parish in Chipata Diocese, Zambia.
In October, some members of St Kizito Parish Catholic Women Association joined the Maula Deanery Catholic Women Association (CWA) on a visit to Kenya. While there, they visited the unveiling of the late Fr Martin Kavisu’s tombstone in Nakuru.
Parish life
During Holy Week, christians participated in a colourful Palm Sunday procession with a donkey around the Chigoneka area.
In October, the parish hosted the 1 Million Children Praying the Rosary. Children from the various parishes in Maula Deanary joined their colleagues in prayers at the parish.
In December, seven new members of St. Kizito Parish, Legion of Mary, Mother of Perpetual Help Praesidium took their promises that were by Fr Martin Mulholland, Spiritual Director of the Presidium and Parish Priest.
St Kizito Youth activities
St Kizito parish youth have had an enriching year
In April, the youth participated in the Archdiocese of Lilongwe Vocation Sunday main event at Mlale parish.
In July, youth from St Dominic mphakati visited the Cancer ward for children at Kamuzu Central Hospital. They donated clothes, groceries and toys to the patients.
In December, the youth extended a helping hand to the local community at St. Kizito Integrated Health Centre in Mtsiliza.
Festive Season
During this festive season, the Catholic Men Association, Catholic Women Association and Youth organised a family day to raise funds to purchase a parish vehicle.
Our Tilitonse children visited the local ordinary to sing Christmas Carols
The parish closed the year by giving certificates of appreciation to 51 couples who have been married for 25 years or more. Five of the couples have been married for over 50 years. In the picture below, Mr and Mrs Kafere, who have been married for 54 years, receive their certificate from Fr Martin.
