Members of St. Vincent de Paul, a charitable association of St. Kizito Parish in the Lilongwe Archdiocese, Malawi, visited the male holding unit at Maula Prison on September 28th. The visit was part of the Catholic Church’s Jubilee of the Prisoners. Earlier in the day, members of the association were celebrated at the Parish during Mass and received blessings for their charitable work.

The primary goal of the visit was to encourage Catholic inmates, reminding them of God’s love and assuring them that they remain valued members of society. During the visit, the association’s members distributed basic necessities, including soap, sugar, soya pieces, and used clothes.

Beyond the lack of essentials, St Vincent de Paul noted that many inmates at Maula Prison face prolonged detention due to a lack of legal representation.

The association, therefore, requests that Catholic lawyers consider providing pro bono legal services to some of the inmates as a charitable contribution to the community.
