Kibeho Pilgrimage Underway

Fr Martin Mulholland with pilgrims on their way to the Kibeho Pilgrimage

Each year, a group known as the Friends of Our Lady of Kibeho organises pilgrimage trips to Rwanda, giving parishioners the opportunity to experience the special feast ceremony on 28th November.

This year, a group of Christians from various parishes have begun their Pilgrimage to Kibeho. Those travelling from Lilongwe were given a special send-off at St. Kizito Parish in Area 47, where a beautiful farewell Mass was celebrated by Father Martin Muholland to bless and strengthen them for the spiritual journey ahead.

About Kibeho

Kibeho, located in southern Rwanda, is a renowned Marian apparition site recognised by the Catholic Church. It is known as the place where the Virgin Mary—under the title “Our Lady of Kibeho”—appeared to three schoolgirls beginning in 1981. Her messages emphasised repentance, prayer, compassion, and deep conversion. Some of the visions foretold immense suffering, later understood in the context of the 1994 Rwandan genocide.

Today, Kibeho draws thousands of pilgrims who travel there seeking healing, renewal, and a deeper encounter with God. The Shrine of Our Lady of Sorrows remains a profound symbol of hope, reconciliation, and God’s enduring mercy.
