The St. Patrick’s Missionary Society has announced the upcoming Diaconate Ordination of four seminarians, including Malawian-born Maxwell Madeya, on Saturday, 8th August 2026.
The ordination ceremony will take place at Holy Family Catholic Church in Utawala, Nairobi, Kenya, with His Grace Archbishop Dominic Kimengich, Coadjutor Archbishop of Mombasa Archdiocese, presiding as the Ordaining Prelate. Stepping into the Order of Deacons alongside Maxwell are his brothers in Christ: Timothy Omang from Nigeria, and Samuel Wangari and Andrew Moriasi, both from Kenya.
Originally hailing from Mulanje District, The Most Pure Heart of Mary Parish, Maxwell spent much of his childhood following his father’s teaching assignments across the country. While attending Mwenyekondo L.E.A. Primary School in Lilongwe, he discovered an early love for the liturgy as a dedicated altar server at Mtima Woyera Parish.
When his father was transferred to teach at Livingstonia Technical College, Maxwell completed his primary schooling at Livingstonia CCAP School before pursuing his secondary education at Rumphi Secondary School, graduating in 2015. Today, his affiliation is with St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Parish in Mlale, Archdiocese of Lilongwe.
Responding to a growing call to serve the global Church, Maxwell formally joined the St. Patrick’s Missionary Society in 2017. His path of discernment has taken him across Southern Africa, beginning with two years of initial formation at the Foxdale International Formation House in Lusaka, Zambia. He then moved to Merrivale, South Africa, where he spent three years studying philosophy at Kwa Patrick International Formation House. Maxwell put his learning into practice during a 15-month missionary apostolate at The Most Holy Trinity Cathedral Parish in the Diocese of Tzaneen, Limpopo Province.
Now in his fourth and final year of theological studies, Maxwell stands on the threshold of ordination. As he and his classmates prepare to make their solemn promises in Nairobi, the parish community invites everyone to join in keeping these four young men in prayer as they step into this sacred ministry of service.
