St Kizito Parish requiem Mass for Pope Francis

Parishioners of St Kizito this morning held a requiem mass for Pope Francis. In his homily, parish priest Fr Martin Mulholland reflected on the life of the Pope. He recalled the night in March 2013 when the new pontiff was revealed to the world and how his greeting to the faithful gathered in St Peter’s Square was given with love and as if to long-time friends. Fr Martin spoke about how, before blessing those gathered, he asked for a blessing from the people.

Fr Martin also reflected on Pope Francis’ many gestures of kindness and mercy, among them visiting prisoners and washing their feet despite not all of them being Catholic. In conclusion, he talked about how he always served his flock despite the Pope’s health challenges. He explained how the Pontiff, on Easter Sunday, though frail and having difficulties talking, blessed the crowds gathered in St Peter’s Square and gave loving smiles.

We thank God for the life of Pope Francis and his leadership.
