On April 19th, the Focolare Movement hosted a “Basic Awareness Course on the Promotion of Well-being and Safeguarding of Children and Vulnerable Adults” at Modesta House. The workshop drew ten participants from multiple Lilongwe parishes, including three from St. Kizito Parish.

The initiative aligns with the 2019 Apostolic Letter by Pope Francis and the Motu Proprio, Vos estis lux mundi, which mandates higher standards of accountability and protection within the Church.
Facilitated by Luciana Maria Dorneles Francis, the curriculum provided participants with practical tools for identifying abuse categories and implementing Focolare’s safeguarding principles. The day also included a segment on basic first aid to ensure a holistic approach to minor safety.

All participants completed the full-day session and were awarded Certificates of Attendance, marking a significant step forward in local efforts to create secure, nurturing environments for the youth.
